Automation Assurance Specialist / Consultant

The opportunity

We are developing senior automation-assurance and quality-engineering capability for customers delivering complex digital services, workflow platforms and automated operations. The purpose is not to add testing at the end. It is to build evidence, controls and quality into the delivery lifecycle so teams can make confident release decisions and operate services safely.

You may own an assurance workstream, design the automation test approach or contribute within a multidisciplinary engineering and transformation team. This is not a manual-testing-only capability.

What you will do

• Translate business, service, technical and regulatory risks into a proportionate assurance and test strategy. • Design, implement and maintain automated test frameworks across user interfaces, APIs, integrations and services. • Embed continuous testing and quality gates within engineering, CI/CD and release workflows. • Establish traceability from requirements and risks through test evidence, defects, remediation and release readiness. • Work with engineers, architects, product teams, operational stakeholders and suppliers to identify failure modes and resolve quality issues. • Provide clear, evidence-based reporting on quality, risk, options and go-live decisions. • Assess functional and non-functional concerns including performance, accessibility, security, resilience and integration. • Support assurance governance, defect management, controls, production-quality learning and continuous improvement. • Where relevant, design structured evaluation for AI or LLM-enabled services, including repeatable test sets, thresholds, human review and monitoring.

Essential experience

• At least five years of relevant test automation, quality engineering, software engineering, assurance or consulting delivery. • Explicit evidence that you personally designed, implemented or materially improved an automated test framework. • Strong practical experience in relevant tooling such as Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, REST/API testing, Java, JavaScript or comparable technologies. • Experience integrating automated assurance with GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins or comparable CI/CD platforms. • Understanding of test architecture, environments, data, traceability, defect management and release readiness. • Evidence of working through a structured delivery framework or disciplined lifecycle, such as STLC, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SDLC, risk-based testing, CI/CD quality gates, DevSecOps, assurance governance, regulated validation or a credible hybrid approach. This is an essential requirement. • Evidence of the service, risk or delivery outcome created, not only tool use or execution of test scripts.

Consulting mindset and delivery

You should be able to structure ambiguous quality problems, listen carefully to different delivery perspectives and communicate evidence without jargon or false certainty. We value practical judgement, constructive challenge, trusted relationships and ownership of outcomes. These behaviours support the assessment but do not substitute for the engineering and assurance evidence above.

Useful additional experience

• Performance, accessibility, security, resilience or exploratory testing. • Docker, Maven, microservices, cloud platforms or service virtualisation. • Public-sector digital standards, regulated delivery or large-enterprise programmes. • Assurance of workflow automation, RPA, intelligent automation or AI-enabled services. • Coaching teams, developing standards or contributing to proposals and capability development.

This is a UK capability-building opportunity for future contract, interim and consultancy assignments. It is not confirmation of a specific assignment. Start date, duration, day rate, IR35 status, location, working pattern and screening requirements will be confirmed against each requirement. Some assignments may require BPSS, Security Check clearance or other client screening. Existing clearance is useful where current and verifiable, but is not a universal requirement. Where clearance is required, the exact residency, nationality and screening criteria will be confirmed for that assignment. Eligibility is not treated as confirmed until the relevant checks are complete.
