Role purpose
We are seeking an experienced contractor to support the planning, management and implementation of Secure by Design and Secure Delivery on a complex defence maritime programme. You will help embed the required controls, assurance activities and security artefacts within delivery, aligned with relevant organisational policy and assurance frameworks.
What you will deliver
- Coordinate cyber security and Secure by Design activities across systems and delivery workstreams.
- Embed security controls, processes and assurance evidence into project delivery, including risk identification, mitigation and dependency management.
- Maintain clear security documentation, metrics and reporting; support audit, acceptance and assurance activity.
- Work across programme functions and suppliers to resolve security issues and ensure delivery teams understand and implement security requirements.
- Support prioritisation of security tasks, continuous improvement and the effective handover of security knowledge.
Essential experience
- Practical cyber security, information assurance or Secure by Design delivery experience in a complex project or programme environment; defence experience is strongly relevant and maritime experience is useful.
- Ability to apply cyber security and information-assurance knowledge to risk identification, control implementation and assurance activities, including work aligned with JSP453 and JSP440.
- Evidence of coordinating security activities and security artefacts across delivery workstreams, suppliers and stakeholders.
- Ability to provide attributable examples for an RFI response: personal responsibility, delivery context, relevant Secure by Design / Secure Delivery, information-assurance or governance outcomes, policy/framework application, and supplier/team interfaces.
- Clear documentation, reporting and stakeholder-communication skills, with an ability to translate security requirements into practical delivery action.
- Ongoing professional development, ideally including membership of or progress towards CIISec, BCS or IET, or comparable evidence.
Useful additional evidence
- Defence or maritime programme delivery.
- Experience supporting Zero Trust Network considerations within programme delivery.
- Relevant cyber security or information-assurance qualifications and certifications.
Engagement details
- Engagement type: contractor assignment.
- Initial duration: two years from 1 April 2027, with a potential requirement through to 30 November 2033.
- Working pattern and location: 0.5 FTE (2.5 days a week), mainly remote, with occasional attendance at Abbey Wood, Bristol and occasional business travel.
- Engagement: Inside IR35.
- Rate: to be agreed.
- Security: valid SC clearance is preferred; consultants able to obtain SC clearance before 1 April 2027 may also be considered, subject to the client security process.
